Two Days of Calistoga Wines and Locally-Grown Ingredients at The Calistoga Food and Wine Event
In its second year, Calistoga has created a food and wine event to showcase its world-class wineries and restaurants.
The Calistoga Food and Wine Event, happened a few weekends ago, April 24th & 25th, and offered attendees an opportunity to taste a wide variety of Calistoga-produced wines paired with samplings from the inventive, yet classic Solbar kitchen and other local chefs from the Calistoga culinary community.
The Main Event – Friday’s Grand Tasting
The kick-off Grand Tasting Event, on Friday, April 24th, from 6:00 p.m. until 9 p.m., took place here at Solage Calistoga, and featured wines from 31 Calistoga wineries as well as live cooking stations showcasing Solbar’s Executive Chef Brandon Sharp and guest chefs Reylon Agustin of The Commissary, San Francisco, and Bradley Borchardt of Expanding Palates.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a party without music. This year’s event included bluegrass favorites from the Ed & Friends band. Ed, a foot-stomping mandolin player, is known throughout the Bay Area music scene. The band added a lively vibe to the event’s beautiful outdoor venue.
With 31 participating Calistoga wineries, everyone in attendance was able to get a full taste of what makes this region so renowned world-wide at Friday’s Grand Tasting. For a list of all wineries that participated, visit the Calistoga Food and Wine main event page.
New in 2015 – Saturday’s Winemaker Dinners
Many made a weekend of it and joined us Saturday night for one of four exclusive Winemaker Dinners added this year. Dining in an intimate setting with some of Calistoga’s most renowned vintners and feasting from one of these memorable menus perfectly paired with Calistoga wines was nothing but memorable.
Saturday night’s dining options included:
- Chateau Montelena Winery & Jack Brooks Vineyard at Evangeline. Chateau Montelena and Jack Brooks combined to offer their prized wines paired with Evangeline’s bistro inspired fare, including Grimaud Farms duck and tarte tatin.
- Jericho Canyon Vineyard at Jole Restaurant. Delicious tapas, king salmon, and the “DB Burger” – Jole’s braised short ribs on a parmesan bun. Highlights included Jericho Canyon’s 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon.
- Larkmead Vineyards at Larkmead. The winery featured an exclusive pairing with a four-course menu including lamb in red wine butter and chocolate brioche bread pudding.
- Laura Michael Wines & Ziata Wines at Sam’s Social Club. This menu started with Ziata’s Sauvignon Blanc paired with grilled morel mushrooms, Laura Michael Wines’ Chardonnay with burrata and mint pesto, and much more.
